Summary In an attempt to explain what history is, a writer had quoted R.G. Colingwood who said, "Tell man what man is by telling him what man has done." He explained that history is simply the story of the past or that which we came to know as a result of enquiry. He equally argued that history is re-written from time to time in the light of new developments and fresh ideas. From the above assertion, one would agree that what we do not know is the history we have not read. In line with this, we introduced to you what we called a diary of political events. In it, certain statements and actions of men were x-rayed and analyzed. Most of the men whose statements and actions were x-rayed and analyzed achieved greatness. Among them were political scientists, philosophers, statesmen etc. Most of the said statements and actions were during trial moments, either in the lives of the individuals or their nations. We decided to x-ray and analyze the statements and actions of some of these great men because of their influences on the succeeding generations of political power-seekers and political power-holders. In a similar vein, the statements and actions of men that stimulate and nurture positive ideas, which promote peace were equally examined. The reader would find most of the quotations useful especially those among us, who are doubting the possibility of having the structures of their futures rebuilt from the rubbles of badly battered structures of their past lives. In conclusion, we want to say that any name of a Person or a country mentioned in the course of discussing an issue in this book was simply done to underline our arguments. Again, wherever death or violence was mentioned, it was done with the deepest sense of lost. The truth is that history is full of the 'uglyand the beautiful' and in fairness, we must speak of both wherever they exist. Equally, we want to say that this work is not immune tos criticism since we are humans who are subject to mistakes. We understand the saying that anything worth doing at all is worth doing well. But the reader will equally agree with us that what is worth doing is worth trying no matter how haphazardly done than to adopt a 'sit-down-look' attitude in the face of any challenging task. Whatever are the shortcomings, we will make up for them in our subsequent work or publication.
